Maya Pijpker’s dream of becoming a yoga instructor began when she first visited Nicaragua in 2009. Looking for a way to enhance her surfing performance and prevent injury, she began a daily practice of Vinyasa yoga and was immediately hooked. Not only did she see her flexibility, strength, breath and body awareness improve, but yoga provided the same meditative quality she experienced and loved when riding waves.
An intensive private retreat at Orion Healing Centre in Koh Phangan, Thailand convinced her it was time to follow her passion. She quit university in the Netherlands and headed back to Nicaragua where she completed her 200hr yoga teacher training in October 2013 with Angela Boltz at Zen Yoga in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. She taught daily yoga classes in the Maderas and Marsella beach communities on Nicaragua’s Pacific coast for a year. In July 2014 she completed a Pilates Teacher Training Mat I and II in Nosara, Costa Rica, and started teaching Pilates at Zen Studio in San Juan del Sur. Since then she has been taking various workshops and short teacher trainings in The Netherlands and Indonesia. An incredible adventure working for the production of Survivor brought her to Cambodia, where in her free time she did yoga classes with the crew.
Then, life took an amazing turn in December 2015 when she found a beautiful studio location in Casco Viejo, Panama City. Together with her husband and passionate yogi Edwin Davis they opened Casco Yoga in January 2016. The studio combines their dreams of teaching and practicing yoga.
Maya Pijpker holds her 200hr RYS certification and her Mat I and II Pilates certificates. She is also a Reiki Level Two practitioner and offers private Reiki sessions.
