Introduction to Ashtanga Yoga
Introduction to Ashtanga Yoga
Introduction to Ashtanga Yoga. Ashtanga is a vigorous style of yoga that promotes health and overall wellbeing. It uses breathing, postures and gaze points to create a sensation of presence in the here and now.
This system has been used for centuries by the Indian sages to heal decease and guide man on his path into illumination.
Being a modular and progressive yoga style, it builds upon itself and is completely adaptable to the practitioner’s level. Meaning the practice of Ashtanga Yoga truly becomes yours. The Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga, or Yoga Chikitsa, is the ideal place to start.
We’ll take a look at what Ashtanga Yoga is and how this method really works. Looking closely into our breathing; we will learn to coordinate movement with breath into vinyasa. We’ll learn what bandhas are and how to effectively use them. Finally after learning our gaze points we will look into the Sun Salutations with their correct vinyasa counts. We’ll learn how to get into and out of all the fundamental postures with their correct distances and alignment.
